Betfair record huge uplift in mobile betting

Betfair has announced a 94 per cent year-on-year increase in the number of bets made using mobile devices. According to the company over 30 per cent of those betting on sporting events now do so using a mobile device. Although the number of active accounts across both sport and gaming fell, the average revenue per user increased by 17 per cent and 8 per cent respectively. In a separate development Betfair has announced the appointment of Peter Marcus as UK Director a move which some observers see as cementing Betfair's standing as a gambling company. Business In Sport & Leisure unveil Conference logo

Business In Sport & Leisure (BISL) whose members include Praesepe plc, Aspers, Gala Coral Group, Talarius, Danoptra, JD Wetherspoon, Rank Group, Ladbrokes, William Hill, Inspired Gaming Group, and The Global Draw, amongst others, has created a campaigning 'Leisure Works' logo which will take centre stage at the lobby organisation's annual conference which takes place on November 10th at Lords Cricket Ground, London. Betting sector predicts gold rush at London Olympics BETTING Leading bookmaker William Hill is predicting an industry wide £50m betting bonanza at next year's London Olympics. The estimate is based on the company's experience offering odds on the recent World Athletics Championships.

Rank submit plans for £6m casino CASINO Rank Group, which operates the Grosvenor chain of casinos, has confirmed that it has submitted a planning application to create a casino within the popular Palace Hotel situated in the seaside resort of Southend, east of London. The £6m development will create an estimated 120 jobs.

Sportech announce rise in profits BETTING Sportech, which processes over $13 billion in bets from customers in 30 countries, has posted a 28 per cent rise in first-half adjusted pre-tax profit following a doubling of sales. The figures were driven by a strong performance of the Scientific Games racing business it acquired last year. Pre-tax profit before exceptional items for the six months ended 30 June came in at £7.4 million compared to £5.8 million the year before
