Over the last year or so the major Asian casino expansion stories have come mainly out of Macau and Singapore. Perhaps it's because both involve major U.S. and international operators and high profile individuals in the industry.

But not every country opening casinos in the region is bending over backwards to attract overseas investment and assistance. South Korea will by mid 2006 have three sizeable new operations which will be 100% Government owned.

The first the Seven Lucky Casino opened on the 27th January and the 2nd & 3rd are scheduled to follow in May and June respectively.

The operating company is called Grand Korea Corp. and it's a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization. http://www.tour2korea.com

It will be interesting to see how they perform in the coming years as most of the foreign players, 80% according to the Korea Times article, are from Japan.
