International Game Technology is expanding its stable of entertainment-themed slot machines with new devices based on "The Dating Game" and "The Newlywed Game." Both television game show slot machines will be featured for the first time at the Gaming Expo Sept. 16-18 in Las Vegas.
A "Terminator" slot machine featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger will also make its first appearance at the G2E trade show although it has not been determined when the new machines will be available in casinos, said Rick Sorenson, spokesman for Reno-based IGT. The "Terminator" slot machine was developed following the April settlement of a lawsuit Schwarzenegger filed against IGT in 2001 over the use of his name, image and voice.
Joe Kaminkow, IGT's vice president of game design, said the TV game show programs were picked as slot machine themes because of the wealth of audio and video available, and because of the interactive opportunities they offer to engage players. Chuck Barris created both shows in the mid-1960s. "The Dating Game" debuted in late 1965 and was aimed at singles. "The Newlywed Game" debuted in 1966 and targeted newly married couples.
In addition to the new television slots and the "Terminator" game, IGT already features entertainment icons such as Rodney Dangerfield, Regis Philbin, Austin Powers and Elvira as well as slots based on "Wheel of Fortune," "The Beverly Hillbillies," "Bewitched," and "Young Frankenstein."
