Webis Reports Improved Numbers
Webis Holdings Plc, the United Kingdom-based online gaming operator, turned a profit of £252,000 for the six months to Nov. 30, 2008, the company reported Thursday.

The company reported a loss of £388,000 for the same period last in 2007.

Turnover grew to £71.47 million from £53.03 million in 2007.

CryptoLogic C.T.O. Departs
On Monday, CryptoLogic Ltd. announced the departure of Michael Starzynski, the company's chief technology officer, and has eliminated the position for now.

The software provider said its reorganization to return to profitability includes reducing annual operating costs by $13 million. Therefore, Mr. Starzynski's role will not be filled, CryptoLogic said, but divided between other managers within the company.

“All members of the CryptoLogic team join me in thanking Mike for his service over the last five years and wishing him well as he embarks on new challenges,” said Brian H. Hadfield, CryptoLogic's president and chief executive, in a prepared statement.

Spin3 Launches Partner Program
Spin3 unveiled its mobile content partner program on Monday, which allows mobile content providers to promote mobile casinos to customers.

According to the mobile solutions provider, the new program gives network operators and content providers the ability to work with the top names in the casino business including 32Red, Ladbrokes and All Slots Casino. Instead of a pay-per-download module, Spin3 says its partner program generates ongoing revenue throughout the lifetime of each player partners refer through a profit-share model.

“Like a match-making service, the new partner program will link content providers to appropriate casino clients to make a winning team,” said Matti Zinder, head of Spin3, in a prepared statement.

Betfair Launches Poker Client in Greek
On Thursday, Betfair announced that it has launched its poker client in Greek.

The betting exchange said that the Greek region has seen “tremendous growth in the last 18 months,” and has therefore become a priority for Betfair Poker.

“I look forward to seeing their unique style of play at our tables,” said Bruce Stubbs, head of Betfair Poker, about the addition of the Greek poker client. “At last they can now check, raise and fold the Greek way!”

Study Aims to Measure Effectiveness of Responsible Online Gambling
A study looking into the checks and balances of responsible gaming in cyberspace is underway at Swansea Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.

In an e-mail, Caroline Jawad, a Ph.D. student and member of the Society for the Study of Gambling, said she is looking for participants to take an online survey to assist in research that investigates the effectiveness of responsible gambling features.

According to Ms. Jawad, the research is self-funded, independent of operators and will be published by the University of Wales.

The survey will be available from now until July 1, 2009
