The cuts were part of continued cost-cutting, a company spokesperson told the news service. Last fall, the Sands laid off workers in Las Vegas, Macau and Singapore.

The job cuts come after Bradley H. Stone, the company’s executive vice president and president of global operations and construction, resigned last Tuesday.

“Losing Brad is a big deal,” Joe Greff, J.P. Morgan gaming analyst, was quoted by the Macau Daily Times as saying, adding that Mr. Stone played a critical role in the Sands’ construction projects.

The company still plans to open a casino in Bethlehem, Pa., on May 22 and Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore by the end of 2009.
