Bwin Takes Over PokerRoom

16.04.2009, Bwin just got a little bigger as it takes over one of the oldest poker rooms online. After a decade of internet activity PokerRoom is no longer playing the same game.

Bwin Interactive Entertainment is an Austrian company that operates under international and regional licences in countries like Gibraltar, the Amerindian reserve of Kahnawake in Canada, Belize, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Croatia, and the UK. The Group which has been listed on the Vienna stock exchange since March 2000 offers sports betting, poker, and casino gaming with most of it's revenue coming from poker.

PokerRoom was one of the first online poker sites to provide multi-language support, today it caters to Danish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian and Swedish speakers, these languages are accessed via 'regional sites' many of them showing local sponsoring for the selected region. PokerRoom has won industry awards such as Poker Site of the Year from the UK Gambling Awards in 2006 and Top Poker Software from the Online Gambling Magazine Awards in 2005.

Recently, PokerRoom players have been offered incentives by the poker room to transfer their accounts to bwin or simply cash out.

PokerRoom was one of the first online wagering sites to offer a total internet play format. With no download, it allowed customers to play anywhere on any computer. It was also one of the innovators of realistic avatars, something that is common place now but wasn't there before.

Bwin's take over of PokerRoom is a good move that will assure participants the same excellent play that PokerRoom provided. Being absorbed by bwin, the largest live and online gambling service provider in the world and the largest operator in Europe can't hurt the PokerRoom reputation. When it comes to recognizable brands bwin takes the lead in sports sponsorship in Europe, also making great strides in keeping sports safe from the influence of gambling.
