Harrah's Interactive Entertainment, Inc., has been formed and is seen to be leading the way for American land based casinos who want to reap the benefits of the online gambling trend. The well known company has been preparing for legalized Internet gambling in the US for quite some time and has finally put an end to speculation that it would indeed venture into the cyber world. The announcement stated the new subsidiary will focus its efforts on Europe in the upcoming months.
Gary Loveman, who is the Chairman the President and the CEO of Harrah's Entertainment said, "As the world's largest gaming company, Harrah's is taking a proactive approach toward international and interactive expansion," "It is important we position ourselves to explore new markets as well as new technologies with our best in class brands."
Loveman said, "I do think the time has come, particularly for online poker," adding "It is a very exciting and very lucrative business and we are going to work hard to convince elected officials that this is something American adults should be able to do." Harrah's Entertainment spent $405,087 early in the year and is registered as a lobby group in support of the new proposed legislation in the USA.
Harrah's Entertainment is ready should the current prohibition on online gambling operations in the USA be lifted. It is thought that the respected company will be one of the first in line to receive an online gambling licence in the US jurisdiction when and if the ban is repealed.
Former online gaming executive Mitch Garber will be the new chief executive officer of Harrah's Interactive Entertainment, and will oversee efforts to expand its World Series of Poker brand internationally and online. Garber left Gibraltar based PartyGaming last year to work for Harrah's. World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack while maintaining his position, will be working with Garber on the new interactive division.
