Italy to Expand Online Gaming

25.06.2009, Aedapi (Asociación Española de Apostadores Por Internet) is very pleased at decision of Italian government to go forward to regulate online gaming, as gamingintelligence.com has published.

The Italian regulator, (Juego Remoto de AAMS - Amministrazione Autonoma dei Monopoli di Stato-) is pushing forward with plans to license and regulate a much broader range of games taking into account the Italian online gambling spend in May increasing 261% year- on-year to a record €336.8 million, primarily as a result of growth in the online poker market.

Concerning the online regulation, the matter is to know tax capacity loss of the countries without such regulation. In the Italian case, partial online gaming licenses and regulation helped increase revenues by more than 20%, a highly significant growth compared to 4.5% in sport betting and 3% in poker tournaments and other games.

Furthermore, the partial regulation is to the advantage of both operators and players (not only taxable benefits but minor protection and irresponsible gaming behavior) and can reduce legal problems with the workers, among others things.

Spain still hasn’t online gaming regulation. After years of different approaches to it, among individual regions, our country is discussing regulating online gaming at national level, with many observers predicting it could happen as early as this year.

The regulation could prove, like in Italian case, the advantages offering by legal betting houses for the Spanish player.
