Macau will add one more casino to its portfolio next week. Stanley Ho Hung-sun’s SJM Oceanus at Jai Alai opens on December 15, and will become the 34th casino in the city and SJM's 21st.

Designed by renowned casino architect, Paul Steelman, the exterior is similar to the Water Cube national aquatic centre in Beijing, used in the 2008 Olympic games, while its interior is decorated in cool blue colours combined with warm reds, oranges and greens meant to be redolent of the sea and corals.

The casino's outer walls are comprised of irregular shapes, giving the impression that the building is enveloped in multi-coloured bubbles.

The property covers more than 32,000 square metres of gaming space over three floors, housing more than 260 table games and over 560 slot machines, serviced by a 2,400 staff. The property also boasts a range of food and beverage outlets and retail shops. Company CEO, Ambrose So said this will be the first casino within easy reach of the ferry terminal and that it will provide “another anchor to our business on the Macau peninsula, the principal gaming and entertainment area of Macau.” Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau-wah will preside over the grand opening ceremony that will take place at 8.00 pm.
