(US).- Harrah’s Entertainment and Starwood Hotels are set to announce today that they will get together for a joint "mega venture" destination resort in the Bahamas. The two companies have scheduled a press conference in New York to reveal details about the venture.

It is the first joint venture between Harrah’s and Starwood. They will be joined by Baha Mar Resorts, with the trio building operating and co-owning the resort, located on Nassau’s Cable Beach.

A recent story in the Bahama Journal -before the hotel and casino partners were known - pegged the cost of the project at us$ 1 billion and said that Baha Mar had committed to constructing or refurbishing facilities to include a 1,000 room casino hotel with a 75,000 sq. ft. casino; along with a 1,000 room convention hotel and a new 300 room luxury hotel.

The property will compete with Kerzner International’s huge Atlantis casino and resort, also in the Bahamas.
