Bally has Zest for Italian VLT market VIDEO LOTTERY TERMINALS Bally Technologies has announced contracts to initially provide 3,600 games for Italy's new video-lottery programme, entering into long-term agreements with two of Italy's VLT concessionaires, HBG Group (2,000 machines) and Sisal Slot (1,600 machines), with deliveries expected to begin in autumn 2010. Bally also announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with Italy-based Zest Gaming to market, sell, service, and maintain its video-lottery systems and gaming devices in Italy.

Greene King takes sober view of recovery PUBS UK brewer and pub operator Greene King has reported a slow down in sales, warning that consumers remained cautious about the future. Like-for-like sales in Greene King managed houses increased by 3.6pc in the 49 weeks to April 11, down from 4.3pc after 38 weeks of the year.

GCasino roll-out CASINO The GCasino brand is on course to hit its target of 20 venues by 2013 with the brand's 11th casino opening in the south coast party city of Brighton. A conversion of the old Grosvenor Casino, the venue has been refurbished at a cost of £1.6m.

A self-styled 'safety net' for gamblers, SGS requires players to sign up to the service and set affordable limits to their gambling by pre-funding using an SGS debit card. New slots from CTXM THEMED PRODUCT With less than six weeks until the opening game in the FIFA World Cup, iGaming software provider CTXM has launched its World Cup Soccer Spins, a slot which according to the company will 'engage players in the atmosphere' of the most famous soccer tournament on earth. Udy Yosha, CEO of CTXM said that the company was adding versions for the iPhone and using the opportunities provided by Blackberry and Google Android. CTXM has also launched the army-themed slot Battleground Spins.

Storm launch SWP to AWP kits CONVERSIONS UK operators will be able to convert SWP products to either Category C or B4 gaming machines following the launch of a ten-game pack of conversion kits by Storm Games. With software based on Storm's Thunderbolt product, the plug 'n' play kit converts the Paragon and FatBox slim SWP terminals into what Storm describe as 'fully compliant Cat C or B4 product complete with decals and top boxes'.

888 takes a tumble ONLINE GAMING Internet gaming company 888 Holdings has blamed seasonal weaknesses across the online sector for a 13 per cent reduction in daily revenues compared to Q1 2010. Analysts however are pointing to the absence of a sports betting offering within the 888 portfolio as a strategic weakness in the business. 888's fortunes will be boosted should, as predicted by chief executive Gigi Levy, online poker be legalised in the United States this year.

Games Media founder steps down DEPARTURE Steve Murray, one of the founders of server based gaming provider Games Media and one of the most influential figures in UK gaming, has stepped down from his position as development director to pursue opportunities outside the sector. Games Media managing director Andrew Ludlow acknowledged the contributions made by his co-founder and the achievements of the business over the previous seven years.

Women still find British pubs unfriendly RESEARCH The British pub industry is failing to engage with a significant proportion of women, according to a survey conducted by The BitterSweet Partnership. One in four of the 2,000 women questioned said they were put off visiting their local pub by an unfriendly and often unwelcoming environment. The BitterSweet partnership was established by brewer Molson Coors UK to make beer more appealing to women.

Piece of Cake REMOTE GAMING The Cake Network, which claims a 'significant' worldwide market share of the white label poker market, has been issued a letter of intent by the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority in relation to an application for a Class 4 Remote Gaming License. Cake Network director Andrew Turner believes that a Malta License will help existing partners market within the European region and existing European white listed operators the opportunity to take advantage of the Cake Network services.

Paddy Power makes a confession MARKETING Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, which enjoys a reputation for being amongst the most innovative marketeers in gaming, have taken the discipline to another level courtesy of a £10,000 sponsorship of the confession box at Our Lady and St Etheldreda church in Newmarket. The official launch of the sponsorship was undertaken by leading jockey Frankie Dettori who was married there. Catholic diocesan spokesman Father Mark Hackson said: "There is nothing morally wrong with gambling." GamCare, the gambling support charity, said that it would be concerned if the sponsored name plate did not carry information about the support available for problem gamblers.

Wetherspoons to hit target by 2022 GROWTH JD Wetherspoon is on target to reach 1,500 pubs within 12 years, according to analyst Paul Hickman of KBC Peel Hunt. With a turnover set to pass the billion pound mark this year, founder Tim Martin will see his pub empire double by 2022 and in the process become the UK's biggest single food-service brand.
