With action continuing on Monday afternoon, it is surprising the faces that have appeared to enter this year's World Series of Poker. It isn't limited to just the poker community; celebrities have come out in full force to take part among the approximate 8,500 players that will make up the Main Event.

With James Garner, Shannon Elizabeth and Jennifer Tilly having taken part on the first three Day Ones, another legend was ready to head to the tables. Former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis was heading into a different ring this time and he couldn't use his fists to try to take this championship. He received a very nice round of applause from the tournament room as he sat down to play in one of the alternate tables that have been started, as he was one of the many players who were waiting to get into this championship through the alternates route.

Perhaps that has been one of the most amazing things that the people at this year's World Series have done is processing through the number of alternate players that want to take part. For the first two rounds of the each day's action, once a table is opened up it is filled with alternates who begin their play there. While this is something that has taken place over the first three days of Day Ones, on this fourth day it seems that they are filling up at a rapid pace. Only three hours into the event, eleven tables of ten players each were filled and the call for more alternates is sounding off constantly with only about an hour to go to get the last players into this year's tournament.

Among the pros, Marcel Luske is doing decently in the early going as well as Kathy Liebert, but one pro that is having some issues is Max Pescatori. "The Italian Pirate" and 2006 bracelet winner was in a very tough hand that cost him a large supply of his 10,000 in starting chips. With a board of Jd-J-8d-8-Ad, Max faced an all in bet from an opponent. He thought surprisingly quickly and called the bet, only to see his opponent turn up a J-10 for Jacks full. He mucked his cards quickly and was struggling at only around 2,000 in chips.

On the attempt at the world record for the longest continuous playing of poker being attempted by Ron Fanelli, it can now be said that he completed his task. After 74 hours and four minutes (beating the old record by almost two hours), Fanelli decided to quit play and take the new record at this level. He played hundreds of people, including professionals Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer and Mike Caro and even WSOP Media Director Nolan Dalla and tournament director extraordinaire Matt Savage. I was also able to find out that this just wasn't a world record attempt; out of the almost 400 games he played, Fanelli was able to win over half of them. For each win, the Gutshot Club will be donating $25 to the Las Vegas Children's Hospital.

Even with the continued battle for the $10 million top prize in this Main Event, it is nice to see that charity is also getting some action as well from Fanelli. As the afternoon moves into evening, we certainly will be continuing to watch the action as the final day of the Day Ones wraps the early action at the World Series. Earl Burton Pokernews.com
