Congratulations To Brandon Cantu, Winner Of Event 48 - $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo 8-or- better ($228,867)
It has taken three gruelling days of poker and a near eight-hour final table, but we finally have a winner with Brandon Cantu taking down Event 48! 762 Omaha enthusiasts took to the felt including the likes of Allen Cunningham, Roland De Wolfe, Kathy Liebert and Phil Hellmuth. However when play resumed today, there would be only two big names remaining with Brandon Cantu and Lee Watkinson headlining the final table.
Cantu captured the chip lead mid-way yesterday and held onto as the final table formed, but after a few pots didn't fall his way, he relinquished it to both Watkinson and Frenchman Jacqmin Mathieu. Eventually though it would be the two veteran's that would reach heads-up after Mathieu hit the rail in third thanks to Watkinson. Starting with a near five-to-two disadvantage, Cantu would let that slip out to a six-to- one disadvantage before mounting one of the comebacks to remember. As his Grandfather cheered him on from the rail along with countless railbirds; Cantu managed to double, then quarter Watkinson to capture the lead.
Watkinson would snatch the lead back one last time before eventually falling to Cantu's trip fours. With Cantu capturing his first bracelet of the series and his second overall, it is unlikely that Cantu can be overlooked as one of the best tournament players of the circuit after adding a near $230,000 collect to his already impressive poker CV.
Congratulations to Brandon Cantu for capturing the Event 48 gold bracelet, and make sure to stay tuned to PokerNews as the remainder of the 2009 WSOP plays out live from the Rio!

Greg 'FBT' Mueller Wins Event #50: $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout! ($194,854)
So at the end it came down to two limit champions from this year, Marc Naalden, only the second ever Dutch Bracelet winner and Greg Mueller, who won the Championship $10,000 Limit event. Both players were early chip leaders and the heads up battle swung both ways with Naalden having whittled Mueller down to about 1,000,000 at one point. But despite a loud and vociferous Dutch rail, Mueller redoubled his efforts and managed to recover to claim his second bracelet of the series. Congratulations to Greg Mueller, double bracelet winner and winner of Event #50!

Result Carsten Joh Andrew Chen David Walasinski Steven Levy Owen Crowe Thibaut Durand Georgios Kapalas Jason Helder Nathan Page Jon Mazursky
Congratulations To Carsten Joh, Event #51 Champion ($664,426)
Carsten Joh outlasted a field of 2,781 players to take home a WSOP Bracelet and almost $650,000 in first place money. Joh has accumulated almost $300,000 in lifetime tournament earnings in Europe, but he made his first score in North America memorable by winning his first WSOP Bracelet.
The German native came into the final table 7th in chips, one of only three players with under a million. However, with the chip leader going out in 8th place, it was truly anyone's tournament. Joh avoided conflict for much of the early goings of the final table, only eliminating one player until the table was three handed. An integral hand for Joh came in the second to last level when he was all in preflop with Ad, Jd facing the Ah, Kc of Steven Levy. The flop came pretty dry for Joh, but thanks to runner-runner diamond he was able to double up and stay alive.
Outlasting Levy (4th place), Joh was able to knock out David Walasinski in third, enabling him to take a small chip lead going into heads-up action. He would extend that lead early, taking two large pots from Chen, gaining a 5:1 chip advantage. In the final hand, Cartsen Joh raised on the button and Chen moved all in for 18 big blinds. Joh instantly called and proudly displayed his pocket sixes on the felt. Chen was all in holding two suited overcards with 10d, 9d. Joh didn't have to sweat the flop when it came a harmless looking Qd, 4c, 3c. However, a 5d on the turn gave Chen nine flush outs along with his two overcards. The river put all of Joh's worry's to rest when he hit the perfect card to end the day – the 6s.
Congratulations to Carsten Joh for earning his first WSOP Bracelet at Event 51.
